R. A. Gatto's opened in April 2000 right across the street from where Richard Gatto's grandfather opened a grill, bar and dining room in 1934. Grandfather Joseph Gatto and his wife Mary ran the restaurant until Anthony Gatto, Richard's father took over after World War II.

It remained in operation until 1963. At that time the family moved to Arizona, but the Monadnock region drew them back. Anthony bought the Cozy Lunch restaurant in Jaffrey about a year later and named it Anthony's restaurant which he owned and operated with his wife Jean until 1976.

Richard worked with his Dad from the age of 13, developing a passion for preparing quality food. He attended the Culinary Institute of America for his professional training, then returned to work with his father until 1975. A move to the seacoast gained him extensive experience in seafood restaurants.

Richard is a CIA graduate with 25 years experience in the seafood industry. He and his wife Donna own and operate R. A. Gatto's. Their goal is to provide:

• A family dining experience
• Fresh food cooked to order, consistent in quality
• The most pleasurable dining experience

With his extensive knowledge of seafood and Italian cooking, Richard created his menu around these entrees. Of course, he also enjoys a good steak, so rest assured it's also top notch.

There is also a banquet room that accommodates 35 to 50 people that is a great place for Christmas parties, birthday parties, wedding rehearsals or any other occasion you want to gather a group for a pleasurable dining experience.
